The IFB AdiposityDiseases cooperates with diverse institutions of the University Leipzig and the University Hospital Leipzig, as well as with national and international research organizations.
Collaborative Research Center "Mechanisms of Obesity"
This collaborative research center (Sonderforschungsbereich SFB 1052) is sponsored by the German research association "Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft" (DFG) and has started at the beginning of 2013 at the Faculty of Medicine at the University Leipzig. The CRCs speaker is Prof. Dr. Matthias Blüher and the vice speaker is Prof. Dr. Michael Stumvoll. The IFB AdiposityDiseases cooperates with the SFB 1052 whose research fields complement the scientific fields of the IFB. The website of the SFB 1052 offers further information of the basic research of this CRC.
International Research Project MetaCardis
The IFB participates since 2013 in the international research project MetaCardis. In this project a consortium of 14 research institutions and companies in France, Germany, England, Denmark, Sweden and Belgium investigate how the human intestinal microbiome relates to the development of heart and metabolic diseases. More information offers the website of the multi-center-study.
Diabetes Studies of the German Center for Diabetes Research (DZD)
Type-2-diabetes and adiposity correlate in many ways. Diabetes is one of the most common secondary diseases of morbid obesity. The IFB AdiposityDiseases is study-center of three DZD-studies: The German Prediabetes Intervention-Study (PLIS), the German Study Gestational Diabetes (PREG) and the German Diabetes Study (DDS). For more information concerning these studies, visit the homepage of the DZD.
European Association for the Study of Obesity
As of August 2015 the IFB AdiposityDiseases has been accredited by the European Association for the Study of Obesity (EASO) and has become part of the network of leading adiposity centres in Europe. The aim of EASO is to build a platform to encourage communication and collaboration on European top level. The medical society is i.a. committed in EU-funded research projects. As an "Collaborating Centre for Obesity Management" (COM) in the EASO-COM-network the IFB will expand its international cooperation. IFB-scientists also regularly attend the European Congress in Obesity (ECO), a congress hosted by EASO.
European Clinical Research Infrastructure Network (ECRIN) – Nutrition
The European Network of research facilities in the field of nutritional science, ECRIN Nutrition, encourages the transnational cooperation and communication in this adiposity-relevant research field. More than 70 research facilities in 20 European countries are represented.
Research Unit: Nutrition, Health and Social Order in the Modern Age: USA and Germany
The interdisciplinary research unit with its team comprising scholars of humanities, social and health sciences will investigate what significance nutrition and health have for modern societies from the 19th century until today, using the United States and the Federal Republic of Germany as examples. The IFB cooperates with the research assossiation, sponsored by the Volkswagen foundation, to establish transnational dependencies as well as national, regional and local distinct features concerning the themes of nutrition and health.
